Culture Ireland plans performing arts showcase, Edinburgh 2010

Since 2006, Culture Ireland has showcased the work of over 36 leading and emerging Irish companies and artists at the Edinburgh International Festival and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. The Edinburgh Festivals remain one of the most important platforms to showcase and promote the performing arts.

Irish companies and artists have consistently achieved enormous success at Edinburgh, winning seven Fringe First awards, two Herald Angels and, in 2009, Gúna Nua won the Carol Tambor award for Elaine Murphy's Little Gem, the top prize in the Festival Fringe.

In 2010, Culture Ireland aims to build on the success of Irish artists at Edinburgh by supporting a selection of work which reflects the excellence and diversity of contemporary Irish performing arts practice. Culture Ireland is now inviting applications for financial support from artists and companies who plan to bring their work to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2010.

The following criteria will apply in the selection process:

- The artistic quality and financial viability of the proposal [a full production budget must be submitted with your application]

- Priority will be given to those companies/artists who have suitable high-quality work available to tour, and the resource capacity to undertake international touring, for a period of at aleast 18 months after August 2010

- It is essential that the work has received a professional production in Ireland by the applicant/company prior to Edinburgh transfer

- The choice of venue and/or presenting partner in Edinburgh will be a key factor in the assessment of applications

In submitting an application to Culture Ireland, please note that successful applicants will receive a contribution towards the international presenting costs [e.g. travel, accommodation, subsistence]. Companies/artists should generally expect to cover production costs [e.g. re-mounting/re-rehearsal costs, marketing and promotion etc]. The selection of companies/artists will be made by Culture Ireland, with the assistance of peer panel assessment where appropriate.

Closing date for receipt of completed application forms is 5pm on Friday 19 March.
